Les Durées applies a slit-scan technique to found footage of bodies in motion: dancers in practices and recitals, couples in public dances, children in playgrounds, and pedestrians in the street. Narrow strips are drawn from successive frames of each clip and arranged side by side, so that the duration of the source footage is laid out across the height of a single still image rather than played out across time. The compressed, striated images are at once a record of continuous movement and a demonstration of its division into the discrete moments we experience as the present, or as a memory.
